"WHEN I WAS LITTLE I had a teddy, which I needed desperately to get to sleep every night. I never dreamt then that I'd end up making my own versions of 'teddies'.
Inspired by everyday oddities and deformities of life, I like to engage people with each character - whether grumpy or angry or hungry - they all have a sense of humour and a feeling of comfort.
I love watching documentaries on extraordinary people and it is this diversity and abnormality that I try to capture. I am creating my own imaginary world of objects.
This 'wonderlandesque' place features curious two headed creatures, playful finger rugs and giant doilies all with a quirk.
The tactile quality of my work comes from my childhood spent in the Scottish countryside. It has had a strong influence on me both in my need for textural and organic forms. |

I enjoy using handcrafted techniques like felting, sewing, knitting and wrapping. My involvement with wool and felt allows me to create a closeness and cosiness that I want people to connect with.
A favourite creature is Edd Red Head, who has a tiny body and a head which gets bigger and bigger each time I make him. He can be used as a cushion and it always makes me laugh when I see people's reactions when they notice his tiny unexpected body protruding."
