Knitting the Cameo Shawl from Loop's book Pretty Knits...

26th April 2008
Saturday - 11am until 5pm

A one day workshop (£50*)

The day will be structured as follows:

Morning - Introduction to the class workshop and the goals for the day.
  • Look at using different yarns together and how different colour combinations will alter the mood of the shawl, how and when you would wear it.

  • Using the samples Louisa brings, students will be asked to pick three shades to work with.

  • Start knitting, look at different cast on methods using ribbon yarns, discuss knitting with combinations of yarns.

  • The piece that you start on will become your swatch. Louisa will bring her original swatches and sketches to show that this is how every one of her designs starts.
  • Work on the lace pattern working from the written instructions.
Afternoon: Once students are happy with the lace pattern and knitting the yarns together we will look at finishing for the shawl.
  • Using your swatch we will look at how to pick up stitches for the edging.

  • Look at knitting the rosettes and flowers and practice making a couple of these.

  • Finish off looking at everyones swatches and see how the different colour combinations work and discuss individual colour taste.
After the session Louisa can help people choose yarns and sign books. The session is very informal and students are totally encouraged to work at their own pace, it is more important they concentrate on feeling confident with a technique before rushing onto the next one.

Taught by Louisa Harding.

To sign up to any classes, please call or stop by the shop

* Louisa will provide some samples of the yarn for the class so students can have a play with the yarns without necessarily having to purchase them. Samples of Grace, Sari Ribbon and Glisten will be available to practice with although there will not be enough yarn for each student to knit the whole project.

If students want to purchase yarn to make the project before or after class then Louisa can help you choose individual colourways and a 10% discount on this purchase will be available for those taking part in the workshop.

The pattern will be supplied to you. Students will need to bring knitting needles as suggested in the pattern (5mm), a sewing up bodkin and buttons (approx 1-2cm diameter) if you want to add them to the rosettes.

Classes are held in the shop. Maximum of 7 students per class. 100% deposit is required at registration.

Cancellation policy
Full refund of deposit will be given for cancellations made up to 2 weeks prior to the first day of scheduled class. After this time, refunds will be given only if the spot can be filled by another student. Please be considerate.
